SAT Exam Prep Books & Resources – ISBNs and Best Prices

One yard stick that colleges use for admissions in the USA is SAT Test or ACT Test scores. Historically, ACT Test was popular only in the mid-western and southern US while the rest of the country used the SAT Test. That is no longer the case and right now it is more of a personal choice as to which test to take. Universities adopt a conversion chart to compare SAT Test and ACT Test scores. These conversion charts vary between colleges and universities and so it is best to get this chart from the concerned website.

As far as deciding on which test to take, there are a few considerations:

1. If you are academically oriented (hint – excellent overall GPA), ACT Test is considered the better option. Math covers a broader area in the ACT Test. SAT Test on the other hand is considered a better option, if your grammar and vocabulary are above average.
2. ACT Test is cheaper compared to the SAT Test. The basic fee for the SAT Test is $47 compared to $33 for for the ACT Test - if you choose to do the Writing portion (optional), the fee goes up to $48.
3. The ACT Test has four sections (English, Math, Reading, Science), 215 questions (English – 75, Math – 60, Reading – 40, Science – 40), and is timed at 2 hours 55 minutes total (English – 45, Math – 60, Reading – 35, Science – 35). The optional Writing portion takes 30 minutes. The SAT Test takes longer, clocking in at 3 hours 45 minutes. It comprises of a total of nine sub-sections spread over Critical Reading, Math, and Writing. Despite being longer, the SAT Test is prefered, if patience is not one of your virtues – because of the sub-sections and the breaks in between, test takers generally feel as though SAT Test moves along faster.

It used to be that Score Choice was not available with the SAT Test. That is no longer the case – you can choose which score you want to report to colleges with either the SAT Test or the ACT Test. Below is a list of study resources available to prepare for the SAT Test:
